Hazing constitutes unethical and unacceptable conduct that will not be tolerated at the technology center. To that end, the technology center adopts the following policy prohibiting hazing in compliance with the Stop Campus Hazing Act.
1. "Hazing" means any intentional, knowing, or reckless act committed by a person (whether individually or in concert with other persons) against another person or persons regardless of the willingness of such other person or persons to participate, that is committed in the course of an initiation into, an affiliation with, or the maintenance of membership in, a student organization and includes conduct such as, but not limited to, physical acts for example whipping, beating, branding, electronic shocking, and applying harmful substances, extreme calisthenics, exposure to the elements, causing or coercing another person to consume food, liquid, alcohol, drugs, or other substances, causing or coercing sleep deprivation, exposure to the elements, confinement in a small space, causing or coercing another person to perform sexual act(s), any activity that places another person in reasonable fear of bodily harm through the use of threatening words or conduct, criminal activities, conduct that induces another to commit a crime, and activities which would induce extreme mental and/or physical stress such conduct that could cause extreme embarrassment or humiliation.
2. “Student organization” means an organization of the technology center (such as a club, society, association, student government, club sports team) in which two or more of the members are students enrolled at the tech center, whether or not the organization is established or recognized by the technology center.
3. No student organization and no student member of a student organization shall engage or participate in or directly or indirectly condition membership on participation in or in submission to a hazing activity.
4. Students violating these prohibitions shall not be permitted to participate in any extra-curricular activity sponsored by the technology center, shall be subject to disciplinary measures which may include suspension or removal, and shall, when appropriate, be referred to local law enforcement authorities for prosecution.
5. Student organizations which violate these prohibitions shall forfeit all rights, privileges, and recognition from the technology center for a minimum of one (1) year and shall be referred to local law enforcement authorities for prosecution.
6. Hazing should be promptly reported. Allegations of hazing will be investigated pursuant to the procedure and process outlined in the Student Bullying Policy, as applicable. Students found to have engaged in hazing will be disciplined in accordance with board of education policy. Technology center employees who are linked to hazing shall be subject to discipline – up to and including dismissal or non-renewal.
7. The technology center will include hazing statistics reported in the Jeanne Clery annual security report and post twice each year (July and December) on the technology center website The Campus Hazing Transparency Report on documented violations.
8. Faculty, staff, and students will receive annual training to include information on hazing awareness, hazing prevention, the institution's policies on hazing, how to report hazing, and the process used to investigate hazing.
