Student Transportation Safety, Policy No. 531

Student Transportation Safety, Policy No. 531

Printable PDF Board Policy 531

The safety and welfare of student riders will be the first consideration in matters pertaining to transportation. Students will be instructed as to proper and safe conduct while aboard transportation vehicles. Emergency evacuation drills will be conducted regularly to acquaint students thoroughly with appropriate procedures for emergency situations.

Students who engage in misconduct, including misconduct that threatens the safety of bus operations, may be subjected to removal from bus transportation and/or such other discipline as deemed appropriate by the administration.

All vehicles used to transport students will be maintained in a condition that will provide reasonably safe and efficient transportation service with a minimum of delay and disruption due to mechanical or equipment failure. Buses and vans will be replaced as required to provide safe and reliable equipment at all times.

Complete reports on any transportation accident must be filed promptly and brought to the attention of the board as soon as possible.

At all times drivers will consider student safety their first priority and will comply with all applicable laws and regulations.
