Lorain McKay Receives 2026 OkACTE Administrator of the Year Award, Health Division

Congratulations to Moore Norman Technology Center Practical Nursing Coordinator/Instructor Lorain McKay, MSN, RN. An accomplished nurse leader and educator, Lorain was recently named the 2026 OkACTE Administrator of the Year for the Health Division. Her 30-plus years of experience across clinical nursing, healthcare administration, military service, and education have driven measurable advances in student success and workforce readiness.

Since joining MNTC in 2017 and becoming coordinator in 2024, Lorain has led significant programmatic gains. She developed a comprehensive simulation program enabling students to complete up to 30% of clinical hours through simulation-based learning, guided curriculum redesign and scheduling improvements, and launched an innovative high school entry pathway into practical nursing, PN Select. The inaugural PN Select cohort achieved an 88% retention rate. When COVID-19 hit, she rapidly implemented a remote learning model that maintained a 100% student pass rate. Named New Teacher of the Year in 2021, she has since mentored multiple new faculty members.

Lorain’s impact extends well beyond the classroom. Her impact extends well beyond the classroom, built on decades of progressive professional experience. Prior to coming to Moore Norman Lorain held senior leadership roles in which she directed revenue integrity, clinical documentation, and payer contracting initiatives that generated millions of dollars in financial impact and improved operational efficiency for a regional hospital system. As a collegiate assistant professor of nursing, her retention efforts reduced student attrition by 20 percent, and as a former military nurse corps officer, she managed domestic and international medical facilities, earning recognition for quality improvement, accreditation readiness, and patient-centered care.

Lorain holds an M.S. in Nursing Education from Southern Nazarene University and a B.S.N. from Southwestern Oklahoma State University, and is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International. She remains deeply committed to advancing nursing through education, mentorship, and innovative CTE leadership. Thank you for your outstanding service to MNTC and our students, Lorain!

Lorain was recognized at the Monday General Session of the 59th Annual Oklahoma Summit! The annual conference is hosted by Oklahoma CareerTech and OkACTE and brings together over 4,000 educators, administrators, industry partners, and technology center leaders from across the state for two days of collaboration, learning, and leadership development.
