Gary Shelton, Basic Peace Officer coordinator/instructor at Moore Norman Technology Center was recently awarded the Oklahoma VINE Award. He was recognized by the Oklahoma Attorney General’s Office (OAG) for his dedication and compassion in promoting a victim-centered approach in law enforcement training. His efforts equipped law enforcement trainees with the knowledge and resources needed to effectively respond to domestic violence and support survivors. These critical resources and services are provided by the OAG, specifically through the Victim Services and Advocacy Unit. 

Shelton has been instrumental in integrating training on VINE (Victim Information and Notification Everyday), Victimology, and the Lethality Assessment Protocol (LAP) Tool for responding to cases of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking. As a result of his leadership, trainees are well-prepared to support victims effectively.
