Moore Norman Technology Center Deputy Superintendent Jeanette Capshaw was recently selected for the 2018 Distinguished Public Servant Award presented by the Oklahoma chapter of the American Society of Public Administration (ASPA).

The Distinguished Public Service Award recognizes outstanding public administration professionals who have made a noteworthy contribution to a government, non-profit, or educational/higher educational institution in the State of Oklahoma during the prior year.

“This award is very special to me. Working with our community to connect those who can assist with solving various needs is so important. Learning to apply servant leadership is a significant aspiration for me,” Capshaw said.

Capshaw has worked in Oklahoma’s CareerTech system for more than 20 years and has served on several professional organization boards throughout her career, as well as local, state and national committees for career and technical education administrative divisions.

Capshaw’s work with civic organizations includes serving as a co-chairperson for Leadership Norman and being a Leadership Moore planning committee member. She is also a graduate of Leadership Oklahoma. Capshaw was an executive board member of Bridges in Norman and a board member for the Cleveland County YMCA. She was also a participant with Tinker Air Force Base COMMSTAR and served as a mission trip advisor with McFarlin Methodist Church.

Capshaw is currently a member with the Moore Public Schools Foundation, a trustee with the Moore Norman Technology Center Foundation and is active with Meals on Wheels, the United Way of Norman and the Norman NEXT Mentor Project. In fall, Capshaw was one of 50 women from across Oklahoma nominated for The Journal Record’s 2018 Woman of the Year Award.

“I have a responsibility as an administrator to enrich the lives of those around me. It is the relationships that develop as a result of this investment in people that builds stronger communities,” said Capshaw.

According to ASPA.org they are the leading interdisciplinary public service organization that advances the art, science, teaching and practice of public and nonprofit administration. As a part of their mission, leadership and members:
