Kiwanis & Rotary Clubs Select December MNTC Students of the Month

Moore Norman Technology Center students Jaron Taylor and Joshua Gilliam were selected as December Students of the Month for the Norman Kiwanis and Moore Rotary Clubs.

Taylor is a Southmoore High School junior and an MNTC Pre-Engineering student. He is the Norman Kiwanis Club selection. He is a member of the Technology Student Association student organization and has most recently learned the fundamentals of CAD modeling and soldering in class.

“I wanted to get a wide range of exposure to engineering fields and chose Moore Norman. I’m really happy with the opportunities I’ve had through the Pre-Engineering program and am so glad it is an available option for students,” said Taylor.

Taylor said his confidence has grown while in MNTC’s program and has enabled him to focus on his skill sets and abilities in different areas of engineering. After high school and MNTC graduation in May 2022, he looks forward to attending college.

Service Careers & Maintenance student Gilliam and was honored as the Moore Rotary Club selection. He took advantage of attending MNTC tuition-free using the MNTC Tuition Waiver scholarship, which allows students to apply if they begin a long-term program before their 21st birthday. Gilliam is also an active member of the SkillsUSA student organization.

Gilliam said he has enjoyed learning the various equipment used to conduct grounds and facilities maintenance and has a new sense of confidence now in knowing what equipment to use for particular jobs.

“Moore Norman is a great place for people to train for new skills and learn what they’ll need to get hired and out into the workforce,” Gilliam said.

He graduates from the program this May and looks forward to attending college.
