Moore Norman Technology Center now offers a free online course developed by the National Retail Federation called Retail Industry Fundamentals. It is one in a series where participants can earn Rise Up certifications in the retail industry. For a limited time, the certification exam for this course, called Retail Industry Fundamentals Specialist, is also free.

As businesses begin the process of rebuilding their workforce, industry certifications often become an important asset when job hunting and interviewing. Students learn workplace readiness and customer service skills that are transferable within any industry.

Learning Concepts

• Overview of Retail: understanding the industry, the retail product cycle
• Customer Service and Sales: service and sales basics
• Retail Operations: operations basics, loss prevention, calculating profit margin
• Workplace Readiness: being professional, effective interviewing, exploring career paths

Students get an overview of multiple career options within the retail industry and direct access to retailers once they earn the certificate. In addition, this course prepares students for the certification test, with a focus on basic customer service, math to conduct sales transactions and an understanding of the retail industry and its impact on the economy.
