Moore Norman Technology Center Accounting Services graduate Shasta Feuerborn was awarded the Nancy Liner Accounting Memorial Scholarship during a Business Professionals of America award ceremony last week at MNTC. The scholarship recognizes a student who demonstrates excellence in the Accounting Services curriculum.

The Nancy Liner Scholarship is presented in memory of Nancy Liner, a former MNTC Accounting instructor who, after being diagnosed with cancer, continued to teach and inspire her colleagues and students. Her passion for her students is reflected in the criteria for selecting the scholarship recipient. Before her death in 1987, she requested that MNTC set up the scholarship for accounting students using a portion of her insurance benefit when she passed on.

Feuerborn graduated from MNTC’s Accounting Services Career Field last Thursday with a Full Charge Bookkeeper diploma. She is an active member of Business Professionals of America and is a member of the National Technical Honor Society.

Accounting Services Instructor Leslie Pfrehm said, “Shasta showed initiative, motivation and excellence in her employability skills and accounting curriculum. I believe she will be successful in her future career pursuits because of her dedication, personality and incredible work ethic.

“She is a team player and will be an outstanding professional. Shasta has overcome roadblocks in her educational goals, but stayed focused through it all.”

To be considered for the scholarship, the nominee must be finishing their last semester of the Accounting Services course at MNTC and plan to enter the field directly from the program, or continue their education in a business-related field. They must actively participate in class and club activities, demonstrate leadership skills and show the willingness and ability to help other students.

A committee of business instructors and professionals review the candidates’ nominations and make their selection.  The winner’s name is placed on a plaque in the Accounting Services classroom, and the winner receives a check for the amount of the fund's interest and a printed award.
