Practical Nursing Student Receives 2026 OAMCTE Scholarship
Oklahoma Association of Minorities in Career and Technology Education awarded the Renae Washington-Lorine DuBose Memorial Scholarship to recent Practical Nursing graduate, Schena Miller. She was recognized during the Sunday Awards Banquet of the 59th Annual Oklahoma Summit! The annual conference is hosted by Oklahoma CareerTech and OkACTE and brings together over 4,000 educators, administrators, industry partners, and technology center leaders from across the state for two days of collaboration, learning, and leadership development.

From a young age, Schena knew she wanted to become a nurse. Growing up, she watched people dedicate their lives to caring for others, especially her mother who worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) for many years. Her mother's example inspired her passion for healthcare and helping those in need.

Schena moved out of state for a while, but decided to move back to Oklahoma. While in Oklahoma she worked at Norman Regional Health System and focused on raising her sons and helping them successfully complete their education before pursuing her own goals. Once they were on their way, she was ready to return to school.

After several years of balancing work and school goals, she made the difficult decision to leave her position to fully focus on her education. Previously she had applied to the Rose State RN program, but chose instead to pursue her LPN. She knew it would build a stronger foundation and make her better prepared for the RN program. She recently completed the Practical Nursing (LPN) program at Moore Norman Technology this summer.

She has years of experience in medical-surgical units, home health, nursing homes, and hospitals. Caring for others has always been a passion for her, and that passion continues to motivate her to further her education. She is excited to receive the OAMCTE scholarship so she can continue her nursing journey. Her ultimate goal is to become a Registered Nurse. She begins the RN program at Rose State College in Fall 2026.
