February Student of the Month HS

Congratulations to MNTC Physical Therapy Services student Katie Johns, the February Moore Norman Technology Center Foundation Student of the Month. Katie is recognized for her outstanding character, leadership, and commitment to excellence.

Instructor Frank Romero praised Katie for taking full accountability for her work and approaching every task with responsibility, honesty, and determination. He also noted her genuine concern for others, as she consistently encourages classmates and helps create a positive, welcoming learning environment.

Despite the demands of being a member of the Southmoore High School Band, Katie maintains perfect attendance, strong grades, and high-quality work in the Physical Therapy Services program. She balances high school, her Moore Norman program, and even her own bakery business with impressive organization and maturity.

A natural leader with a heart for service, Katie recently helped lead an effort to adopt three families for Christmas. After presenting the idea, her class voted to use fundraising earnings to purchase gifts for these families. She secured additional support from a local occupational therapy clinic to supplement the class’s efforts, further expanding the impact they were able to make in the community.

After completing the program, Katie hopes to work in a physical therapy clinic while exploring a future career in education or another child-centered field. As Mr. Romero shared, “If I were to select the ideal candidate for a future in the medical field, Katie would undoubtedly be one of the first students I would seek out.”

Representatives from the MNTC Foundation, Tinker Federal Credit Union, and district administrators surprised Katie with the announcement in her classroom.

Spring Blood Drive March 25

Norman, OK

MNTC hosts a spring blood drive, 2026 Donor Champion "More Than Ice in Our Veins". Schedule your appointment online for Wednesday, March 25 between 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. for the opportunity to help saves lives! Our goal is to fill every appointment spot.

Health program instructors and students are actively involved in preparing for the event as a way to give back to the community. Everyone is encouraged to donate, but anyone under the age of 18 must provide a completed permission form before donating. The forms can be picked up from the Physical Therapy Services classroom in the health building. Donors will receive an exclusive donor champions t-shirt while supplies last.

The blood drive will be located in the health building room H202 at the MNTC Franklin Road campus in Norman.

Blood donation helps people in our community. Donors, especially those who donate regularly, keep our nation's blood supply stable. Although many people donate blood after disasters, blood is needed every day of the year, every two seconds in the United States. Because of this need, Moore Norman Technology Center hosts a blood drive three times a year. According to Our Blood Institute, one donation can save up to three lives.

More reasons to donate:

  • Each donation can impact the lives of many loved ones and friends.
  • Another way to fulfill part of MNTC’s mission statement of changing lives and building better tomorrows.
  • Employees earn the Blood Donation Wellness Badge.
  • You get a t-shirt and a snack.
  • Giving back to the community.

Contact the Frank Romero, Physical Therapy Services instructor at 405-801-5402 for more information about scheduling your appointment, or go to the website: www.yourbloodinstitute.org

Students walking next to pond going to Health
Guest Writer: MHS Intern

Moore Norman Technology Center is a place for endless opportunities, education, and support. Its structure and flexibility allow students to spread their wings and explore their passions. With such a wide variety of classes and courses to take, there’s truly something for everyone to explore.

During my time spent at Moore Norman, I’ve been able to observe the strong connections not only between students, but the staff as well. In any educational environment, it’s important for students to feel comfortable when asking questions, getting resources, and growing in their chosen field. Many students share their gratitude for having such great mentors who push them towards success every day. Anthony Requena shares, “Being taught by teachers who have real life training in the field I’m studying feels amazing. They spare no expense on giving me the best education they can.”

Due to such a large variety of classes offered, the opportunities presented to students are unlike any other environment. Paige Chilvers explained how her confidence has been built during her time at Moore Norman: “I moved schools my junior year and I was too shy to participate in anything leadership related in high school. Moore Norman Technology Center not only gave me those opportunities, but I really flourished in them! I've gone to state for conferences, I'm vice president for my class, I'm an ambassador, and I'm sectary for the CTSO team.” It’s unbelievable how uplifting the community is, and it’s amazing to see how much it impacts the students here.

One thing that stands out the most to me about the programs at Moore Norman is how much they focus on preparing students for the future. They provide every student with an abundance of resources to set them up for real careers. They focus on teaching situations and scenarios similar to what a job would look like within their desired profession. “I really liked the aerospace program and how we were able to actually build rockets that we launched and the gliders that we flew. Moore Noman has a lot of great hands-on projects that are very cool,” states Jackson Tait when asked about the learning style of his class.

Besides having great classes, the atmosphere is also highly commented on by students. Logan Pittman shared with me, “I love taking walks around the ponds because of the scenery, and the campus is also very clean.”

Moore Norman is more than just a school; it’s a community that works together to uplift and support students with their academic and personal lives. It’s an outlet for achievement that gives many students the next step into their careers.

National School Counseling Week 2026, “School Counselors Amplify Student Success,” sponsored by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), will be celebrated from Feb. 2–6, 2026, to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems and how students are different as a result of what school counselors do. National School Counseling Week highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career.

The Moore Norman Technology Center school counselors actively engage in helping students examine their abilities, strengths, interests and talents. They are working in a partnership with families and parents as they encounter the challenges of raising children in today’s world. Counselors are able to focus on positive ways to enhance students’ academic, career and social/emotional development while working with teachers and other educators to provide an educational system where students can realize their potential and set healthy, realistic and optimistic aspirations for themselves. School counselors are certified, experienced educators with a master’s degree in school counseling. The combination of their training and experience makes them an integral part of the total educational program.

“School counselors work with all students to remove barriers to learning by addressing students’ academic concerns, career options and social/emotional skills,” said Jill Cook, ASCA executive director. “School counseling programs help to increase student achievement and provide a much-needed resource for students, parents, teachers and administrators. School counselors are integral to student success.”

More than 100,000 school counselors nationwide will be participating in the week’s festivities. Many schools will be hosting special events and activities to call attention to the countless benefits of a comprehensive school counseling program.

As part of its celebration for National School Counseling Week, Moore Norman Technology Center will be sharing and recognizing our counselor perspectives through social media and celebrating them on campus. Parents or community members with specific questions about counseling programs and resources should visit the MNTC Counseling Services webpage. More general information about school counseling can also be found on ASCA’s website, www.schoolcounselor.org.
