Ten Moore Norman Technology Center Automotive Service Technology (AST) students were recently awarded $5,250 in industry-based scholarships. In 1993 the first of the scholarships was awarded and more than 40 have been awarded since. The scholarship committee read through 24 applications this year to select the final ten recipients. Congratulations to all of the well-deserving scholarship recipients!
The application process started in December 2024. Students received guidance and support from Lucinda Francis, Jennifer Layman, and Michelle Mears, along with their instructors. To be considered for these scholarships each applicant interviewed before a panel of professionals and submitted a resume and essay about their educational and industry goals.
Representative Jason Blair presented the Billy Mitchell Award to James ‘Jes’ Smith in the Civil Air Patrol during an awards ceremony at Moore Norman Technology Center. Jes is a select few to reach this accomplishment. Only 15% of members receive this award.
The Mitchell Award marks completion of Phase II of the CAP Cadet Program, recognizing sustained excellence in all four areas of cadet life: leadership, aerospace, fitness, and character. Further, Mitchell cadets must have passed comprehensive examinations on leadership and aerospace topics and have completed a week long encampment immersing them in a challenging Core Values and Stem environment.
