Franklin Road to close between 24th Avenue NW and 12th Avenue NW

Franklin Road will close to through traffic between 24th Avenue NW and 12th Avenue NW beginning Monday for reconstruction of the bridge over Little River. The road is expected to reopen in July.

The detour is Tecumseh Road. Signs will be in place to direct motorists.

The improvements include replacing the existing two-lane bridge over Little River as well as 2,000 feet of pavement on Franklin Road. The project will add 10-foot shoulders to the roadway and bridge to improve public safety and accessibility. The improvements will also reduce roadway flooding.

The Franklin Road Bridge Project, a $3.7 million project, is administered by the Oklahoma Department of Transportation with Frontier Bridge as the contractor. Federal transportation funds provide 80% or $3.1 million of the cost of the project, with City of Norman providing 20%, or $600,000, from the city’s 2012 Transportation Bond Program.

Questions may be directed to John Clink, City of Norman capital projects manager, at 366-5424.
