This theory course will instruct the student on the various techniques used for venipuncture according to established procedures. It will highlight safety standards, legal and ethical issues, and quality control procedures.
Students will learn basic medical terminology used in the laboratory as well as basic functioning of the cardiovascular system, including anatomy of the heart and vessels. The instructional format includes classroom instruction and hands on practice in the Health Lab. Forty-eight hours of clinical follows the class dates.

This course require skills practiced at a clinical facility, there are basic requirements students must meet. These requirements are determined by each facility. Days and times of clinical rotations will vary because of facility availability, most are Monday-Friday.
Spaces in clinical rotation sites are limited and students must adjust their schedules to attend available clinical rotations for a 40 hour work week Day Shift. No exception.
You must turn in all prerequisite information on the first 2 weeks of class or you will be withdrawn from the course (Call for Prerequisite information. Contact: Tiffany Herndon at 405-801-5826)
*Students must be 16 years of age or older to enroll in short term classes.
