Nurse Aide

High School Juniors and Seniors Only

Build your nursing career foundation by learning Certified Nurse Aide skills and earning three state certifications: Long Term Care Nurse Aide, Medication Administration Technician, and Home Health Aide. Nurse aides are also known as nursing assistants, certified nursing assistants, geriatric aides, and patient care technicians. Nurse Aides provide hands-on care and perform routine tasks in long term care facilities, hospitals, and patients'/residents' homes under the supervision of nursing and medical staff. Specific tasks vary with aides handling many aspects of a patient's/resident's care. They are the principal caregivers and have more contact with residents and patients than do other members of the health care team. They often help patients/residents eat, dress, bathe, toilet, take vital signs, help patients and provide skin care. Aides make important observations of the patient’s/resident's physical, mental, and emotional conditions and report any changes to the nursing or medical staff. Students will be given the opportunity to apply the theory they learn in the classroom during practical clinical experiences. The clinical experience may extend beyond regular class time. MNTC Tech Reps are available to assist students in coordinating a schedule that causes minimal disruption to the student's high school class schedule. Students must provide their own transportation to clinicals.
