Counseling Services

Preparing for Success, Changing Lives, Building Better Tomorrows
The mission of the Moore Norman Technology Center (MNTC) Counseling Services is to support a diverse population of students—encompassing a wide range of ages, educational backgrounds, and work experiences—by partnering with MNTC faculty and community stakeholders. Our goal is to graduate students with the understanding and insight necessary to achieve their personal, educational, career, and social potential throughout their lives.

Our team consists of state-certified counselors, each assigned to specific program areas and housed within those areas. This structure enables counselors to work closely with their students, instructors, administrators, partner schools, and other stakeholders, enhancing our ability to address the unique needs of our student body.

At MNTC, our counselors play a pivotal role in guiding students toward success. As dedicated, certified professionals, they empower students to realize their full potential by providing tailored support in personal and social development, career advisement, and academic advisement. By leveraging their expertise in specialized areas and utilizing various resources, our counselors strive to create a positive environment that encourages students to embrace their educational journeys and achieve their career aspirations. By aligning our services with the national standards set by the American School Counseling Association (ASCA), we ensure that our students receive the highest quality of guidance as they build a solid foundation for lifelong success.

Coping Skills for Stress Management

Explore coping skills with immediate and habitual practices.

Coping skills are techniques and strategies designed to help individuals manage difficult emotions and stress, fostering a sense of internal balance. These skills can be divided into two primary categories: immediate tactics for managing emotions in the moment and habitual practices incorporated into daily life.

It is important to remember there is no fixed number of coping skills a person needs; a diverse "tool belt" of strategies is usually most effective. It may take some trial and error to find what effectively helps the individual in different circumstances. It's beneficial to try new skills in low-stress situations before applying them in more intense scenarios.

Stress Management Tips for Students

High school students and post-secondary students face significant stress from multiple sources. Test anxiety creates pressure to excel academically, leading to sleepless nights and self-doubt.

Social media worsens these feelings, with constant comparisons heightening insecurities and isolation. Meanwhile, increased screen time, necessary for learning and socializing, can contribute to burnout and inhibit real-life connections.

Addressing these challenges is crucial for supporting students' mental health and well-being. Select the options below to discover helpful tips.

Why Should Students Look for Scholarships?

Scholarships can significantly ease the financial burden of education, making higher learning more accessible for students. They provide vital support that can cover tuition costs, books, and other educational expenses, allowing students to focus on their studies without the stress of overwhelming debt.

Additionally, scholarships can enhance a student's resume, demonstrating their achievements and dedication to their field of interest. By seeking scholarships, students can find opportunities that align with their unique skills, backgrounds, and aspirations, further enriching their educational experience.

Disclaimer
MNTC strongly encourages students to pursue scholarships as a means to finance their education without incurring debt. However, we advise all students to be cautious in their search for financial aid. Please do not pay for scholarships or services that guarantee funding. Before beginning your scholarship search, we recommend reading the U.S. Department of Education and Federal Trade Commission resources on scholarship scams to protect yourself from potential fraud. It's essential to approach scholarship opportunities with awareness and to utilize trustworthy sources.
